As far as I know most search engines only update every so often, so it may take a while for them to scan everything again and get your page on the lists. When they DO scan everything, your page will go on the lists, but keep in mind that unless you have some unusual words on it or link to it using some unusual words, it will probably be far, far back in the list. One good idea is to use your screenname as a keyword, so that people will see your page if they search for your screenname. For example, my website is somewhere in the thousands or millions for pretty much every word in it, but it's number one for 'green_meklar'.
If you like, you can also put instructions on your page for people to googlebomb it. Googlebombing is the process of linking to a page from a whole lot of other pages under certain words, in order to make it appear high on the lists for those search terms. For example, if you wanted your page to appear high on the list for 'peanut', you could put instructions on your page saying something like this:
Hi everyone! If you want to help get this page high on Google, copy and paste the following code to your site:
peanut

You'd put this in the tags. Meta data goes between the
tags.
Example: Say I have a music store website. I'd put something like this in the meta data tag:
etc.
The search engines send out what they call spiders or crawlers that parses these meta tags of websites out there. Be as thorough in your meta data as you possibly can about what your site is about.
Be aware that a majority of the users may not have the ability to adequately put in words what they're looking for; so think like a user, not like the owner or a knowledgeable user. Think about how there've been times you've been looking for something specific but couldn't think how to exactly ask.
Be both vague and specific in your keywords.
Good Luck.

Go to Google Sitemaps and enter your web details there. If you have made it with solid headings Googles spiders will find it in about 6 weeks.
