I want an acoustic-electric and I need durability, something with good electronics. Are there brands known for their electronics or brands known for being unreliable? Any other advice/recommendations would be great. Any advice on a good busking amp would be appreciated too. I'm thinking a Crate Taxi, but likewise, I do not know if they are reliable.

I am also a busker and do street performing with a guitar, and if I was to go out and buy an acoustic-electric guitar right now, I would get the Fender CD100CE Acoustic Electric Guitar. The action on this guitar is incredible and the sound quality with and without an amplifier is just awesome and is currently on sale for $269.99 (list: $385.70 ).
For an amp, I would consider the Roland Micro Cube Battery Powered Amp with a 5" speaker. I have tried this amp out, and it just blasts out amazing tone and volume, plus 6 special effects for getting different sounds. It runs on 6 AA batteries or AC power and would be ideal, from busking to beach parties. The Roland Micro Cube amp is currently on sale for $125.00 (list: $149.00 ).
Another amp to consider is the The Freedom Amp with a preamp out, rechargeable battery and an 8" speaker. A busker friend of mine owns the Freedom Amp and claims it has a much better sound quality than the Roland Micro Cube. It doesn't have all the special effects of the Roland Micro Cube, but as he says, if want want special effects, you're better off with a pedal. He says he has owned just about every battery powered amp out there and claims the Freedom Amp is the best!
You can find out more information and buy the acoustic electric guitar and the amplifiers I mentioned at http://download-sheet-music-online.com/gibson-guitar-sale.html (use the search engine at the bottom of the site).

If you need reliability, and if you plan to use it for street performance, I'd stay away from tube amps. As you mentioned, the Crate Taxi would be a good candidate for such purposes.

As far as the guitar goes, it really depends on your budget. Ovation makes great acoustic/electric guitars that are built solid. I used one for years and it was a workhose. If you need something cheaper, Epiphone, and Washburn are good brands that make pretty decent acoustic/electrics.

Hi there! :)

It would depend on your budget and location...but anything branded such as Yamaha or Takamine should work well. If your budget is a little more probably a Fishman or LR Baggs pickup would be good...these are usually installed on nicer guitars such as Martin or Larivee.

Hope that helps! :)
