Splints are sometimes used instead of casts for fractures with open wounds. Some hip fractures require a Total Hip Arthroplasty, as some knee fractures need a Total Knee Arthroplasty. Every once in a while, but not as common anymore is traction. Otherwise I think that covers it:*)

ORIF- included plates and screws
OREF- includes external fixators and devices such as a Halo brace.

Well, it would be difficult to say because it would depend on the degree of the fracture and where on the bone the break occurred. It may not even require a cast. Rods, screws, plates, and grafts or even total replacements are used. Godloveya.

don't know ....but on my puppy i used Popsicle sticks and tape and it worked. now on humans i would check with different doctors to see what is best
