No. The only indicators of mental illness are listed in the DSM-IV: http://allpsych.com/disorders/dsm.html.

Natural variations in behaviours are not correlated to mental health.

If you are referring to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, some people suffering OCD suffer from a compulsion to wash their hands excessively, this results from a need to control their environment and lessen anxiety. This is a symptoms of the disorder and has nothing to do with a natural inclination toward tidness.

nope. for instance some people with ADD are neat freaks and others are messy. I think being really neat is just a characteristic of someone whos a bit anally retentive (which is pretty normal actually) also there OCD factor into it, or people with learning disabilities have a different way of keeping thier stuff depending on the person

actually it is a person's way of mental organization. there is a woman at my work who likes nothing on her desk and is perfectly healthy- i on the other hand have a bunch of stuff on my desk and am also perfectly healthy. its what you might call organized chaos. what you might think is messy might be perfectly neat and orderly to someone else. it has to do with how the brain organizes itself. some people can jump from conversation to conversation and stay on top of every detail- others cant- doesnt make either one crazy. however, if someone is compulsively neat and i mean beyond the realm of just having a clean desk, or if someone is messy to the same degree ( piles on piles of specific things like magazines ) could also be OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). my boy-friend has mild OCD where if a drop spills on the counter he has to clean the entire counter and the sink. that's just how he is. we dont make a big deal about it i actually find it interesting.

An MH condition exists when the conditions interfere with the ability to function in life. If you are overly neat, but spend a decent amount of time with work and friends and family for your own needs, then that's fine.
If you are messy, but there are no bugs, adn you can find what you need (some of us just know our own mess like the backs of our hands)
then there is no probem.

Some of the brightest people in history have been considered disorganized or messy as you call it. One of those would be Albert Einstein. Many extremely intelligent people have things they feel are more important to them then their dress or decor.
If either became an obsession then it could be considered a mental health condition.

be attentive to what you mean - i've got have been given something like that and this is exceedingly specific noises which canchronic me completely psychotic, eg: eating, sniffing or something human made that could nicely be helped. no longer yet found out precisely what it rather is, yet we suspect this is the two a condition observed as Sensory Integration illness or a kindof correct hyper-sensitivity illness. The latter might desire to be because of the fact i will take heed to lots greater frequencies than std. yet am deaf to decrease ones. on your case i've got faith the latter may be nearer in which you're choosing up specific noises some distance too loudly, or you have merely have been given a comfortable listening to and subsequently each and every thing sounds very loud to you. Suspect you would be greater effective off going to a listening to professional - optimistically your checklist might have the skill to refer you - exceedingly in case you have never had that examined because it might desire to be distinctive motives and that that they had have the skill to point some strategies. Ear plugs are an selection, yet distinctive noise comes in the direction of the lower back of your ears and your head so would possibly no longer consistently artwork. rather worth a shot besides the fact that if.

Only if extreme - not "extremely clean" or "extremely messy," but the behaviors that cause people to be anxious if someone doesn't return the spices to the shelf in alphabetical order, or someone who collects clutter to where it is a fire hazard, even though they know better. They often feel trapped by their behaviors. That's different from just having high or low standards of orderliness.

I don't know, but I've seen a sign that says

"A clean desk is the sign of a sick mind"

that I really like. If that's the case, my mind is incredibly healthy! :)

Only if someone has their desk just so-so and never lets anything be moved or disturbed. Then you have a person who is a little nutty on several levels.
