i recently upgraded my laptop RAM to 1Gb by adding another 512Mb to it.according to the specs, my laptop should be using a 512Mb 533MHz PC5300 DDR2 RAM.so i bought the same kind of RAM in order to upgrade.in just a few minute after i start using my laptop, it suddenly restart by itself.this happens everytime when i'm using it.it works fine after i took out the new RAM.so my question is.Am i using the wrong type of RAM or there is something wrong with the new RAM?

It's definitely a memory issue. before you send it back try switching memory bank positions. Next I would examine the working module for any information about the chip. Then I would try the new chip only to determine if it is the chip or a compatibility problem.

If the chips are the same, and the problem continues, return the new chip for a replacement.

You don't mention the brand or the model number. I would check the manufacturer's web site for a solution for the problem. Good Luck.

The reason could be one of several things, if your old RAM module is handy(i.e if you can reach it easily) try to replace that with the new one and start your laptop... if it still shuts down then your laptop's mother board is not supporting the new RAM module.... If it works fine then install the old ram module into the empty slot and see if it works...

It it still behaves in the same way, then i think there is something wrong with the laptop's mother board... get it checked by a professional or call the manufacturers tech team...

All the best..

Adding a new Ram Must be after careful review to the Mother Board manual, some Boards like Dell, Don't accept a new Ram to be installed without a pre-upgrade to the bios. Try to see the manual of your board, if you don't have one, check this at the manufacturere's wenbsite...

This can sometimes happen where the new RAM is the correct type but to the same spped as the original RAM installed. Having mismatched RAM sppeds in any computer system can lead to strange things happening. Hope this helps, good luck.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
