while working on the car while runnig iput my hand just on top of the distributor and it shocked me . my wife said it has done the same to her

you need new wires, you should also check your distributor cap and rotor button, you should replace them too. don't work on your car while it's running, you could get hurt.

You might want to change yoursparkplug wires going from you distributor to your spark plugs?, If they have never been changed they might be old & bad!!!

you need plug wires!.... if you spray a mist of water over the cap with it running you will see electrical arcing...
