I hate fearmongering tactics, but unfortunately, that's what helps politicians get elected, and we all know that they'll do ANYTHING to get elected. Fearmongering worked beautifully for Adolf Hitler, so we should really take a lesson from history here and try not to fall for the fearmongering tactics used by the politicians here.

The USA Patriot Act is the most fearful piece of legislation ever devised. It takes away many of the rights promised in the Constitution.
The government has pretty much carte blanche on what it does, who it does it to, and why it does it. The government does not have to tell you what it is doing to you, where they got the information on you, or why they are doing it to you.
Do I think that the USA Patriot Act will be repealed by the 'other' party. Not a snowflake's chance.
The Department of Homeland Security doesn't seem that different from the old Soviet Union's Committee for State Security (KGB).
Fear by ALL politicians has always been part of the political landscape.. But, I would rather have the old stumbling, bumbling, corrupt greedy politician, than the new stumbling, bumbling, corrupt greedy super-patriotic politician.

the worst is "they are cutting, social security, medicare, education" drill. If you think about it, the Federal government should have nothing to do with retirment insurance, health insurance, and education. They really stretched the "necessarry and proper clause" around the 16th amendment and bound it in red tape on these issues!
It's vote buying scare tactics, every two years.

The fear mongering I hate the most is the insipid, strength and pride battering fear mongering done on a daily basis by the politically controled media. This enrages me. It erodes individual self esteem and strives to make the public desperate for "help" from officials....couple this with all of america being comforted to death, and americans become useless, helpless, McDonalds eating, tax paying machines. Honorless. Prideless...I wish they would wake up and stand up.
