The pipe that is dripping is not visible. It is dripping from the floor of the 2nd story onto the ceiling of my family room. It is a very small drip and I can Hear it when the upstairs sink is turned on.

Stop the water supply (main shutoff in the house), disconnect the pipe, reseal the pipe threads, reconnect the pipe, turn the water back on, and clean up any spilled water.

From your description, you have a leak on a drain pipe. If it was a water pipe, it would leak constantly. You will have to access the leaking pipe, by cutting the ceiling, where the leak is. If your lucky, the leak will be close by, but remember, water seeks the lowest point, so it could be traveling along the pipe for a distance, before dripping down. Good luck to you!

Before you tear the house apart, examine the trap connections in the drain pipe under the sink. Odds are pretty good that your leak is right there.

If your asking then you don't know enough about plumbing to attempt this.
Any water leak is BIG ............the little drips will soon take down your family room ceiling.........say nothing of rotting the beams btn the floors.
Hire a plumber before you need a total remnovation .
