I'm not sure and have never heard that progesterone increases chances of pregnancy however my doctor suggested i take a natural progesterone cream because i have very irregular periods. I had two very regular periods while taking the progesterone. Well I was suppose to start my period a week ago and it never came and i'm experiencing fatigue, soar breasts( which i don't even get befor or during my perid nor ovulation) and my husband keeps saying over and over again your pregnant well i'm going to take a pregnancy test and see what the results are..
So i guess it does help with increasing your chances, it has helped me out alot with my periods..Befor the progesterone cream i didn't have a period for a year and a half with no cause as of why all my tests came back perfect..
So just try it, it wouldn't hurt
good luck!

progesterone is what doctors use when people are TTC and for women who are prone to miscarriages. As soon as i found out i was pregnant i was placed on it (the vaginal suppository) until i was 13 weeks. (that is when the placenta takes over and starts to make the hormone itself.)

Its just another form of hormone theropy that does not hurt to try. *though there is not many studies that proove it helps.. but it does not hurt* i have had success with it.

just read your update: its not the BC your OB is talking about!

Progesterone is a C-21 steroid hormone involved in the female menstrual cycle, pregnancy (supports gestation) and embryogenesis of humans and other species. Progesterone belongs to a class of hormones called progestogens, and is the major naturally occurring human progestogen.

Progesterone is produced in the adrenal glands, the gonads (specifically after ovulation in the corpus luteum), the brain, and, during pregnancy, in the placenta.
In humans, increasing amounts of progesterone are produced during pregnancy:
Initially, the source is the corpus luteum that has been "rescued" by the presence of human chorionic gonadotropins (hCG) from the conceptus.
However, after the 8th week production of progesterone shifts over to the placenta. The placenta utilizes maternal cholesterol as the initial substrate, and most of the produced progesterone enters the maternal circulation, but some is picked up by the fetal circulation and is used as substrate for fetal corticosteroids. At term the placenta produces about 250 mg progesterone per day.

I use to take progestrone tablets too (due to not having a regular cycle. I would go for several months without one.) My doctor told me if I ever became sexually active and become preagnant it would be a good possibility that I would have a multiple pregnancy. Taking these pills for a long period (no pun intended) time can have a negative effect on your system too. Talk to your doctor and best of luck to you.

The only way you are going to get pregnant is if you are having unprotected sex. If you're on BC, ask how this is going to affect it. You may experience a few side effects from the progesterone.
