My daughter is 6 month old, and still going through that cold! It is something going around, first it will be all her belly (throwing up and diarreah) and then it will all be a head cold. Careful though because this cold can spike a 102 temp out of no where (via pediatrician). I havent' given her anything too often because in a few articles in Parenting Mags I have read recently, giving your child a cough suppressant hides other symptoms- she is coughing so hard though she gags- I had given her Tylenol Infants Cold and Cough so she could get some sleep though- she had roughed for a few days and her Pedi said it was just the viral and bacterial colds going around. The best advice I got was that when they spike the fever, give them a temprite bath, nothing else, but that and it works wonders!!! I would say if you know it's just a cold she hasn't slept go ahead and give her the infants cold and cough, it won't hurt if you just use it now and again!
Good luck

No cold medicine yet she is too young. You can squirt some saline drops in her nose and aspirate the junk out. Also, a cool mist humidifier in her room at night will help with the coughing and stuffed up nose.
You can give tylenol for the fever though. Sometimes the babies like to sleep upright when the are stuffed up so then can breathe better. You might consider letting her sleep in her car seat or something similar for the next couple of days.
Good luck and look out for ear tugging since she is congested.

My 7 mo old son just recovered from the same symptoms. Dr said it was a virus. Took about a week to get better. Running nose lasted forever. I put him in bathroom with the shower running to breathe the steam and put baby vicks on his chest. Otherwise gave him Motrin for the fever which lasted about 2 days. I also gave him Tylenol cold and cough which helped a little bit. Just took time is all. Good luck

Keep an eye on your daughter because colds can progress into ear infections. If she starts crying constantly and rubbing her ear, call the doctor. Make sure to give her fluids (nurse or formula) because she loses them as she fights the virus. Do not ask for antibiotics because they are way overprescribed and lead to resistant strains of bacteria.

If she has a barking cough that worsens at night call your pediatritian because this is probably croup. Steamy showers and then a trip into the cold outside may help her symptoms.

The advice now is not give them anything. Use one of those bulb aspirators to keep her passages clear (I warn you, she'll hate this). Give her extra cuddles. If she runs a temp, you can give her infant tylenol. It is so hard to watch a baby be sick. If her symptoms get worse or her cough goes on more than 7 days, take her to see her pediatrician. My little one had a cold that seemed to last forever and her doctor gave her triaminic but he also gave me a special medicine dropper with the proper dose marked on it. That's the kind of thing that you only do with a doctor's instruction. I hope she feels better soon.

Benelyn makes pedeatric drops for infants 3 months and older. There is one specifically for cough and congestion. I would only give this if it is only a simple cold. If it persist or worsens please go and see your Dr cause it could be something worse. Watch her ears cause sometimes a cold can turn into an ear infection. You can also use a humidifier in her room with a little vicks in it.

Best of luck and always trust your mom instincts.

Always call your pediatrician. Many parents try to give their children over the counter drugs to help ease any colds. Many of the times they overmedicate their children (without knowing) or don't treat the actual symptoms. It could just be a cough and running nose or it could be something worse. Call you doctor - and be safe - for your daughter.

Not to be mean, but...Get off the computer and go to your pediatrician. Any idiot can post an answer, (I just proved that), but why in the world would you make your baby's health decisions off of an anonymous posting on yahoo??? See a professional! Maybe it is something more significant than "just a cold."
