Does anyone know how many "servings" we should eat in a day total (of all foods)? Of that total, how many servings of each category of foods (meat, fish, veggies, fruits, grains) should be eaten? If you answer in terms of ounces of food or calories - please convert to "servings" -- i.e. what is a "serving"?

Holy Joe - don't have a problem with what? Answering this question doesn't imply that one has a problem.

It's amazing - literally nobody knows the answer to this. The government has all these recommendations about how many "servings" people should eat and it's 6-8 servings of this and 6-8 servings of that -- when you get done you're eating like 30 servings of food a day (and they want you to stay under 2000 or 2500 calories). Does any of it make sense?

That whole subject is a quagmire, especially if we are looking to the USDA for authoritative and correct answers.
The first USDA link deals with serving size, after reading it
i now know less than i knew before i read it.

USDA Food Guide Pyramid and FDA Recommended Daily Allowance
Carbohydrates = 60%,
Fats = 30% and
Protein = 10%
Warning!
This diet will cause many diseases when eaten for 20 years

Sadly there is no easy or even right answer to your question that is equally applicable to everyone.

Have a pleasant day.
