It varies from person to person. Firstly choose a piercer you trust who is professional, clean and reliable. Yes even if they are more expensive than others (everything needs to be sterilized, they need to use a disposable needle, etc. etc)... They will give you a leaflet with instructions about the aftercare and suggest what kind of mouthwash to use and for how long. The piercing itself does not hurt because for obvious reasons the tongue if pierced where there are no nerves. My tongue got very swollen for a few days, I could not talk properly and I could only eat ice cream - they will put a longer jewel first so that your tongue can swell, you will need to have it changed afterwards. But I know that it wasn't as bad for other people so as I said, it's different for everyone. Then the size of your tongue will go back to normal, just make sure you follow the aftercare istructions, and... enjoy your new piercing :)

A hole lotta pain, I know a girl that had it done, I seen the pain she was in, took off work a few days, because of it. And it seems it could be dangerous, because of the blood vessels and nerves in the tongue. Talk to a doctor about it first, or just don't do, your just as cool, not having it.

You can expect that people might not be able to understand you talk . this tends to make your tongue swell and you'll sound a bit stupid and boy wait till your dentist finds out! he may drop you as a patient! having a piercing in your tongue will damage your teeth severely!!!!!
you'd better think about this one some more before doing it.
