I am looking for suggestions on how to deal with my neighbor's yard and trash, which has become a huge eyesore. In front of the house, "trash" sits because the trash people will not pick up large, broken glass tabletops, rotting sofas, used mattresses, broken exercise equipment, or broken bicycles (all currently in front of the house). This is not a new thing. In the past, TVs, microwaves, transmissions, computer equipment, dead lawnmowers, mattresses, etc. have been left and not picked up. Once there was a small fire there, and clothing was thrown out a window and landed on a tree. For the next seven months, the "clothes tree" kept its shirts and pants. Meanwhile, the owner told me how lucky he was that he had so much insurance on the house. Soon after, new electronics (inc. huge TV) came in; the tree kept its clothes.

Just as bad is the yard garbage: old broken plastic chairs, torn banners, rolls of rusty fencing, used tires, unused lumber strewn across the yard,....

Help, pls!

Also, we are not friendly/unfriendly. I think my neighbor is happy with this arrangement, as he has rarely been friendly since we moved in six years ago. I believe that he has had a large number of people rent out his basement during this time, as we often see different people come in and out of the house as time goes by. This also explains the ridiculous number of mattresses that have been discarded (left for the trash people) over the last six years.

Thanks for suggestions. I really don't hate the neighbor and I like the rest of his family. I'm just tired of the mess and (one day) may want to sell our house.

Call the city and complain. Where I live he would have already received several citations, fines and warnings. You can also try the health department. Junk piles like that are prime breeding grounds for rats. Try to get some other people in the neighborhood to complain as well. The more complaints, the sooner some one will take action.

Geeze... Maybe you should consider moving if you live so close to a place with people like that?

Cockroaches and bad neighbors... Almost never move. You either have to exterminate them or wait for them to get evicted.

Nothing worse than trash with money!

In the meanwhile... Try calling yourself for a special pick-up? Some states require that you request a special pick-up apart from the normal Bi-weekly trash. It is a special request for larger items that you can't remove yourself or put into a regular garbage truck load... Call the sanitation Dept and request it FOR them.

Personally... I would have marched my big *** next door and TOLD them to do something about it by now... Im not as nice as you are though...

I'm sorry for you... I know how shitty neighbors can ruin an otherwise perfect situation.

Man oh man do I feel your pain!!!! check with your city clerks office and see if you have a "clean it or lean it" program. if so, the city or county checks out the nastiness and issues an order to the land owner telling them they have 30 to 90 days to clean it or the authorities take a lean out on the property and the owner loses the property. This is usually a quick fix. If they don't comply the authorities assume ownership and believe me, they will enforce these orders, and sooner than you think the land is cleared and the nasty people are gone, therefore eliminating any potential infestations for you and easing the pain on your eyes and nose, not to mention you will also reclaim the true property value on your property again. If your town doesnt have this program you can always go to Civil Court and sue them for decreasing your property value and also for the eyesore.....This too is incentive enough for some junky folks....Good Luck with The Nasties !!!!!

The city will sort it if you complain enough, you could set fire to it all, pretend you know nothing about it but pamper them over there loss and say well at least you have lots of insurance to claim on,sorry this doesn't help really but hope you can see the funny side to help cheer you up after having to look and put up with that eye sore for such a long time.

Absolutely what Bugs said! Where I live, the city and county lately have been doing a lot of work to eliminate eyesores such as that. And your neighbor's habits could be considerred a health hazard.

In our neighborhood we complained and the city didn't move fast enough, so one neighbor went to the city council meeting with photos. She gave her home address whe she addressed the council (during the segment where people can speak about things not already on the agenda) and she gave her pictures to the Mayor. Since our council meetings are televised, the city manager was "outed" and we got instant results.

Why are you even appealing it then? you're giving them food and 'borrowing' money, i think of even i might save on coming back for 'freebies'. What you're able to desire to do is first of all tell those people to 'kindly pass away' the subsequent time they knock at your door, and as for the noise and distruption, call the noise patrol. that's what they're there for. you're able to desire to be merciless to be type! after all, what'll ensue in case you do no longer? You and something of your neighbours are going to have alot of sleepless nights! good success.

If I were you I would print off a copy of this question you just posted and send it to your city sanitation dept. Maybe call a local TV news crew to come out and look at it for the local news. The shame might make him clean it up.

My advice to you is call the Health Department , they'll get the job done for you and you can remain anonymous. You should not have to put up with that mess! I know I sure wouldn't. You have the power to stop it NOW!!! All that trash attracts RATS! I know you don't wanna have to deal with that . . then you'd have to rat proof your property. that could get expensive.

Contact the city and complain about the trash not being picked up or disposed of properly.
