I have written my essay on emotional development of children. However, I am having problems linking it to appropriate theories/theorist such as Erikson, Maslow, etc. Can a psychology student or anyone with ideas of any theory and that can explain in a simplest form. Thanks love.

How about linking it to Bowlby's "attachment theory" then? He's an establishment figure with ideas on stages of development.

It starts form the parent taking care of the child. You as a parent begin the emotional development of your child. How you hold hug and care for the child when first born teaches them on who to trust and who not to trust. When they are walking, talking and understanding; you begin showing them what you are proud of and what you are a shamed of (like when they draw a picture if you smile and say how great it is and hang it on the wall or they wet the bed and you tell them how bad that was and your punishment for that). The next stage is their purpose in life; imagination (playing house, playing with cars, pretending to be a doctor) what they want to be. They then learn how to get along with others (share, play, go to school, have rules) They need to learn who they are they have to be satisfied with themselves. All of these things We as parents have to teach our children as they teach themselves. You had mentioned Erikson he has a theory of 8 stages and these stages are: Trust verses mistrust, Proud or ashamed, Purpose in life, Relating with others, Satisfying their identity, Love, Care, and Wisdom.
