I tend to think that small businesses probably will get a few breaks. But I also think that the budget will be a fairly (or unfairly depending on your point of view) balanced affair. I think it will be in Brown's usual prudent style, and probably won't end up benefiting anybody very much, except perhaps Brown himself - since he's bound to throw in a few "popular" measures to ensure that he looks good going into the Labour leadership election.

Addendum:-
Now that the budget is over - looks like I got it about right, I think. The Chancellor giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other, with the 2p income tax cut as token "popular" measure and the reduction of corporation tax as a bit of a break for business.

The budget's over. It certainly was a budget for business. Good for big business, very poor for small business. Good for a few individuals, poor for those that need it most (except, perhaps, pensioners who got a little) and, of course, he's hit his favourite target again, the hard working middle class. The man is incompetent regardless of what the pundits witter on about. Regrettably, we'll all find out when it's too late.

no ,he needs to rake in some tax.

He is way over his spending budget on NHS and Education.

This coming year he knows tax off cigarettes will fall too. Hence the rise in green taxes, which actually effect everyone.

If he had any spare pennies to rub together, he would have given the nurses etc.. a rise, this alone may cost him the vote, but the government is skint and services are still poor.

He may give a tax break to businesses, but in the process he will increase the pressure on the 99% of population who dont own a business, they have less money to spend which means no extra revenue for businesses. (apart from banks, debt collectors and job centre workers)

Don't be naive, he has a Socialist States of Europe to finance.

But I suspect he might offer an amnesty to illegal immigrants, using the arguement that it would be best for the economy.

This devious and dishonest individual, originally came into office on the back of a televised boast of, "No new taxes!"

Forget the bull, Gordon Brown as a Chancellor of the Exchequer, is the Mr Bean of politics.

No, (The PM apparent according to Brown) will tax the people more using the facile green issue. The sooner we get rid of this fingernail biting Scottish twit the better, in fact all New Labour and our Scottish Cabinet.

He will come up with the same sanctimonious guff as he has done for the past few years about the NHS ,policing and green taxes. He will then proceed to rob us blind as he has done every year since this lot got in. I know it's an old joke but at least Dick Turpin had the grace to wear a mask when he robbed you!.
