Hey - Phil - You are correct about me momentarily getting Cheney confused with Rusmfeld, but that's all you're correct on.

"I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency." --Vice President Dick Cheney, on the Iraq insurgency, June 20, 2005

"We know he's been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons, and we believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons." –Vice President Dick Cheney, "Meet The Press" March 16, 2003

"I don't know anybody that I can think of who has contended that the Iraqis had nuclear weapons." –Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, June 24, 2003

He is not stupid. Don't ever make the mistake of thinking one person in this administration is stupid.

The American people who believe them are the stupid ones. They fall for the pretty lies over and over and over. He deliberately misled the weak minded who would fall for it.

After that, we have a responsibility as a country that if force were to be used and if the United States did have to go in with its coalition partners -- and there are a growing number of nations that would be participating in a coalition of the willing -- we feel an obligation to see that what is left after that regime is gone becomes a state that does not have weapons of mass destruction, and that would be part of our responsibility; that it would be a state that would not threaten its neighbors and launch Scuds into it, or use chemical weapons on their own people or their neighbors, as they have in the past; that it would be a single country and not broken into pieces; and that it would be a country that would be setting itself on a path to assure representation and respect for the various ethnic minorities in that country. >>

Once again, a Bush basher has misquoted, but this time you even got the person speaking wrong. Rumsfeld himself said the rebuilding phase would be needed. The six months max was to remove Saddam from power. Idiots.

Quit being spoon fed the moveon.org line and stop listening to Air Head America. In other words, join reality.

He thought, just like Bush, based on the great intelligence reports they had, it should not take more than 6 months to demolish WMDs. And then Iraqi civilians would embrace Bush cohorts. What is stupid is their not believing the whole fof the rest of the world, which was screaming there are no WMDs and do not invade.

Well, I don't think that was 5-D Cheney; I think it was Dumbsfeld.

-----------
Rummy: "And it is not knowable if force will be used, but if it is to be used, it is not knowable how long that conflict would last. It could last, you know, six days, six weeks. I doubt six months. "

-- 2.07.03
--------

Of course, it would be impossible for 5-D Cheney to know which was the business end of a gun, anyway, since he never served (although he did manage to almost blow off a friend's face while they were hunting for Dan Quale in Texas, I believe...)

--------
Follow up:

I stand by my quote from the transcript. RUMMY said it, and here we are FOUR YEARS LATER and we are STILL FIGHTING.

QUIT swallowing the crap from the news organizations that spout YOUR news and THINK for yourself.

Both. They did not prepare for this war. Wouldn't you think that someone would have done a little research and figured out the Sunnis and Shites just don't get along?

He decided to opt for the four year paycheck instead of the 6 month for his contrator buddies

Did he? I did not hear him. The defeat of the Iraq military did not take that long.
