Like any city or coastal resort, there is an element of yobbish behaviour, mainly on the weekends as large groups come to our humble city and seem to forget what manners are!

Everywhere large city has rough area's, but Brighton has a great continental feel with a large mix of cultures and sex's but I am sure it is not as rough as London and some northern city's.
Great place to be in the summer!

Brighton is like any other city, it does have it's rough areas and it's more up-market areas. Being Brighton it also has some genteel areas! It depends on where you go, the residents of the Marina would probably not consider themselves to be rough!

I have lived there for 7 years and never had a serious problem.
Worst place is West Street on a saturday night - but that's the same in any city where the cheesy night clubs are and where the chavs go out.

Like all places it depends on what area you are in. Yes there are certain areas of Brighton that are rough but there are also areas of Brighton that are really nice.

I lived there from 2003-2004. I only had one unsettling experience and that was in Whitehawk. Most people I knew their just said to stay away from Whitehawk.
