I am going to SC in May during bike week but have a small child and don't want to go where the festivities from bike week are going on. So I am just wanting the closest beach but where it is quiet and family oriented to go to during that time.

Bike Week takes up pretty much the entire Grand Strand, so you will probably have to go way north (into North Carolina) or way south (Pawley's Island and farther south) to get away from the festivities. Garden City Beach is usually pretty "tame," but you will still be right in the heart of Bike Week. Most of it ends just after Murrells Inlet.

I've been there during that time. I'm afraid that the beaches for 25 miles north and south will be crawling with bikers.
Next time plan your vacation around bike week (both of them, harley bike week and black bike week which is 2 weeks or so after harley bike week). That or go to another beach for your vacation.
