Why are gas prices cheaper in the south?

Right now in upstate NY it's around $2.65 a gallon but I went on a road trip and down in Georgia and South Carolina it is around $2.35?

A lot of times it is because of the difference in taxes from state to state. Same with cigarettes - the difference is because of the taxes among states.
