What's going on? Congratulations! You have a normal, healthy growing baby who is lucky enough to have a Mommy who is breastfeeding him. Go you! It's very, very normal for little babies (and even older babies) to spend a LOT of time at the breast. I swear my now 7 month old didn't pull off and look at the rest of the world till he was about 2 months old. My other three hit stints like that as well, especially during growth spurts. Your baby is going through a period of very, very rapid growth. That takes a lot of caloric energy, which means a lot of nursing. I know it can be rough, I've been there. Just know this phase will pass. Before you know it you'll be trying to catch your little one to get him to slow down long enough to nurse! Enjoy the quiet nursing time. Rest, relax, read a book. Look at your baby and try to memorize how he looks as a newborn. It goes so darn fast.

Any particular reason you're using nipple sheilds? I'd ditch them if I were you. Unless you have very flat or inverted nipples, there's no reason to use one and you'll just be causing yourself more trouble in the long run.

Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing. I've breastfed all 4 of my babies, my older kids all to the age of 2years plus. You'll hit bumps along the way. Just remember it's something both you and your baby are learning. As your little one gets older, the nursing relationship will just become easier and easier.

sounds like both of mine at that age. Its so time consuming but well worth it. could be normal but could be he isnt getting enough..... is he going for an hour or more without nursing? You said you are using a shiled...does he pinch you when you dont use the shield? if so, he may not be latching on properly and if thats the case he may not be getting enough. I went through that with my first one-he just would not open his mouth enough. Will he take the bottle? If so, give him a pumped bottle-all he wants and see if he waits longer to eat - if so, maybe he isnt getting enough. You may need to see a lactation consultant to help him latch on. I would try the pumped bottle if he will take it and see how often he eats
good luck

what you probably want to do is start putting him on a schedule. start with every three hours where you feed him for 15 minutes a side, then give him a little play time and put him to sleep for 1 1/2 hours or so. you don't have to be rigid, but the schedule actually helps to control his metabolism, stabilise your milk supply and get him sleeping better, faster. It's worked a charm for our 4 1/2 month old girl. Good luck!

That is just totally normal!!! My son did that too. In my opinion, I could be wrong, some people son't make as much so the baby has to eat more often. I beleive that was the case for me. He ate like that for maybe 1.5-2 months and then normalized. My doctor told me over and over again that this is normal for breastfed babies and that it would get better. it did!!

Is he sucking well ? have you tried seeing how well he sucks on your finger? is he actually latching on? do you see milk on his mouth when you pull back? this exact thing ahppened to me. i had breast fed with two others too, but still didnt notice the latch wasnt great. its so tiring I know. I would switch pumped bottle than rest so you can see more of whats goinbg on and get some rest.

This could be a case of "comfort sucking". Sucking is calming and soothing for most babies not just a way for them to feed. Have you tried a pacifier?

Your month old child is using your breat like a dummy. Once they have there fill the will fake the sucking to stay close to mom.............Unlatch from the breast and put a dummy in if he takes it.
