Just over a year ago I was followed by a man in a white van while out walking my dogs, but he drove off when I got out my mobile phone to call for assistance. For that reason, I now carry a small but very sharp knife with me. I'm not a teenager (I'm 38) so maybe I'm not the right person to answer this question, but I do carry a knife for personal safety reasons and I won't stop just because it's illegal. I'd never use it on someone just for the hell of it and potentially it could save my life.
I reported the man to the police and all they could do was have a word with him about his behaviour. I also found out that if at that time I'd had to allow my biggest dog, a German Shepherd cross who's been trained to be aggressive on command, to attack this man in MY defence I could have been prosecuted!

Youth is always hot blood and fancy doing things where they feel more with power, proud and stronger. It comes down with age and let them experience and thier side effects of carrying weapons. Pain of punishment will make them understand as how hard is to carry knives and guns..
I blame politics for developing the Influence and interests of carrying weapons.

Too much violence in the world, on tv and adults beating each other up. Too many violent computer games.
Not enough policing and irresponsible shop owners and parents not setting a good example.
Improve all as mentioned above and we may change the fact that our children seem to want to kill each other.
All guns should be licensed
Any child caught with adults gun - the parents should be fined to the hilt and have their license revoked and not permitted to buy another fire arm for the duration of their natural lives.
Same goes for anyone who sells such weapons to a minor.
People who make violent computer games should change their focus for the younger generation to respect life.

Stop fantasizing that these "youths" should be treated like kids... if they can carry a gun and shoot people with it... they should be held accoutable for it... I dont give a crap for the usual excuse that their brains have not fully matured. The full weight of the law should be used on them... juvenile, youth, adult... they break the law, let them suffer the law!
give their parents a beating as well if found to be lacking with parenting!

wait, why should police do random searches? isn't that an invasion of privacy? the only way that would work is if it was at a school that said they would have random searches.
also, i carry a knife and a lighter whenever i am not in D.C. (too many security issues), or school. i carry them because many times they come in handy, not because i am going to maliciously attack someone.
also i think that the reason so many "gangstas" carry weapons like this, is because they wanna be tough, and they don't know what it means to hurt or kill someone. because teens today don't know what death really is, that it is permanent and hurts many people. not to be stereotypical, but the only people i have heard of or know of carrying weapons at school are emos/goths and gangstas, and at that in very small numbers do they carry them.

it seems to be the violent culture these days. very scary isn't it. Not sure how to stop it. There are bans on carrying these items. maybe cops should do random searches on youths but they don't have the time.
What is needed is tougher sentences for these idiots that do carry these weapons so that there is a deterrent.

It's not just the hip hop culture though, really, it's the fact that people nowadays have actually got nothing better to do than running round stabbing one another. Back in the days it used to be stone fights and wrestling that kept the kids entertained. Nowadays they just have better technology to be competitive, a sort of "my guns bigger than yours" type of thing. The worst part it will get continue to be exacerbated until they realise just how ridiculous it is (a problem that can be sorted out with their so called 'heroes' such as 50 cent).

its a terrible state of affairs isnt it.i worry for my kids at school nowadays.it seems to have just caught on and the more that carry weapons, i supose, makes others feel that they have to do the same to protect themselves or to warn off others. They need educating from an early age of the dangers, and effects on the families of the people who have been victims of guns and knives etc. Also tougher laws to deter them from carrying weapons, as they seem to get off too lightly until someone is actually killed.

that believe is a question that shld be on everyone's mind. it does'nt matter where you are any longer. all over the world (america, europe, africa, asia...) youth are not just carry weapons, but they are using them to commit heinous crimes. some of these people commit these crimes on a dare or to prove their machismo to their friends
every adult the world over especially parents should watch their children & try to checkmate them before it's too late.
if you can't stop them alone, get the police. it's better to correct them than let them be serving life sentences for murder.
good question, by the way....

They had been watching too many horrors and violence movies.
Were living in fantasy with "Fear is the key" with imagination running wild and spread like wild-fire which they could not overwhelm it in planet of apes.
When they expose they could not differentiate between fantasy and reality or ghostly stories in planet of apes.
Try and decode this lyrics 'Where is the love Mama" and listen to how they cry inside them in planet of apes.
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors was created in the creation of living human kind into mankind of intelligent design with self expression as the Son of God being created into the Son of a dirty old man from the graveyards of ancestor's custom with artificial intelligence of artificial design in making a mess with them living in misery in planet of apes.
