As a "punishment" I have to wear one all day (yes, while at work.) Can anything bad happen by having it in for about 8-10 hours?

If you're going to do this, you just need to take a few precautions:

Make sure you pick a very soft, very pliable anal plug. If you want all-day wear, it needs to have a lot of give, to move with you for whatever you're doing. Buy one special if you don't have any on hand.

Similarly, you want one that you can keep in the right place. The ones that come with straps to hook around your legs are good. That way it won't slip too deep inside and potentially become lodged in a place where you'll need surgery to get it out.

And finally, you need to be able to take it out to go to the bathroom and to reapply lubrication. If your punisher won't allow that, then I wouldn't do it- you'd be quite uncomfortable, and not in a good way. Once your lube dries, the plug can cause tears and lots of irritation as you move around. Optimally, you want to slip into the bathroom every couple of hours for a healthy reapplication of lube.

The area will dry out and you will not only be very uncomfortable but irritated, not to mention possibly setting off some real GI issues. 8-10 hours is too long to wear a plug big enough to not fall out on its own. If you are living a BDSM lifestyle then you (as a submissive) have every right to safeword. Its your responsibility to protect yourself when your Dominant doesn't. Negotiate something different, perhaps wearing the plug on the weekend while doing something physical, such as mowing the grass or washing the cars.

Even if it doesn't damage your rectum and has a way of not going in too far and letting you remove it when you need to, it doesn't sound like a good idea health-wise. It does sound erotic and kinky, though, especially the idea of not letting on to anyone that it's in there while you go about your daily routine. I'd rather you did it around the home where you can accommodate it rather than have to work against it.

I've "had" to wear one for quite a while, At first it was great, but then as the day wore on, I began to get very uncomfortable. If it starts to bother you, discreetly go to the bathroom and take it out for a while, Just to give your rear a break.

I'm not 100% sure. I don't think so but you have to make sure it doesn't have any sharp seams in it. You don't want to injure your prostate. Plus the fact that its going to be quite uncomfortable while your at work. I know doing the 24/7 power exchange is fun but you have to make sure that you can do your job to the best of your ability. It its not comfortable then take it out.

Just make sure it has a base on it so it won't get burried up inside you, believe me it can be very hard to remove and painfull. You mite want to relive yourself first and douche too.
