We are better off with a larger government because it spreads the power around more and makes it harder for any one person to do what they want.

The founding fathers knew that very few people have a good enough character to be trusted with all the power in our country, so to keep our country from ever becoming a dictatorship, they established the system of checks and balances with the balance of power between the President and Congress and the courts.

Republicans have no issue with that premise at all. They are always fighting for less government and less taxes. Democrats are always wanting more government control and more taxes to pay for that control. Democrats are simply control freaks. Yes, we would all be much better off with less government. Right now with no other options, the only solution would be to avoid putting Democrats into power.
