If I am correct, it is sulphur. We used to use little packets of this yellowish powder when we went on school camping trips in the jungles. It does keep snakes away effectively; I assume it is because the "smell" of sulphur is unpleasant for snakes.
Sprinkle a thin line around the area you wish to protect from snakes. It should do the trick. But be careful not to get poisoned by the powder. Hope this helps!!!

There has been no proof of the long-term effectiveness of sulphur, mothballs, lye, or any other "snake repellent" and it will need replaced after nearly every rain.

If you have snakes on your property there is a reason for it. There is food, either in the form of rodents, birds, insects or lizards, depending on the types of snakes found. There is shelter, a woodpile or dense vegetation, maybe some rocks or holes under your foundation. "But I don't have rats!" Of course not, you have snakes, your rat population is just big enough to support your snake population... I wouldn't suggest poison, because if you lay poison out, you'll have things dying all over the place... traps should work fine though. If the snakes are getting into your house, you will have to not only get rid of the food source drawing them inside, but also stop up any holes that they could be getting into... gaps under doors, around window air conditioning units, into crawlspaces... snakes can fit into suprisingly tight spaces. Remember, your house is most likely much more comfortable temperature-wise than outside is, so just that temp. difference, could be what is drawing snakes into your house.

Purchase or borrow (from your local library) a field guide to your native snakes so that you can get a positive I.D. on them to determine if they are dangerous, and if they're in the open, most areas have wildlife removal services that will come out and take snakes away as long as they are either contained or out in the open.

Good luck.

by way of fact the others stated- community snake possiblities would be maximum probable black racer, in spite of the reality that they wouldnt be fairly that sizeable, or an jap coachwhip- some are particularly dark, and that they are quickly too, or in keeping with risk even an indigo snake, in the event that they vary there. None of those snakes can harm you very undesirable, in spite of the reality that they are in a position to make you bleed, yet remember florida is regrettably prevalent for released/escaped exotics, so nothings fullyyt impossible. maximum suitable to play it secure in florida, on the full uncommon risk this is became an unique like a mamba or cobra, in spite of the reality that maximum of those subject concerns ensue in south florida, and are great uncommon(different than burmese pythons that have become extra straightforward). while you're extremely particular related to the dimensions, and not exzagerating like maximum human beings do, than I cant think of a community u.s. snake that stands 4 ft aff the floor on an analogous time as hauling butt. Even a extensive coachwhip or racer would purely stand a foot or 2 off the floor while crawling. and oftentimes purely inches off the floor. I even have got here upon, even with the undeniable fact that, that maximum human beings, while scared by using a snake, exagerate the dimensions by using a minimum of 50%, if no longer alot extra(and say they are are beneficial approximately their measurements)- no offense meant- purely my easy adventure from "rescuing" human beings from snakes. case in point, maximum "6 footers" become approximately 30 inches. lower back- no longer asserting you're complete of it, purely what my adventure has been with others. in case you will get some good %. from a distance, somebody could confirm what that's. habit sensible- maximum probable a black racer.

I don't know about a powder, but try a garden hose laid on ground around your home. One snake will not crawl across another one and the garden hose will be taken as one.
