I know you believe in what you stand for and it is honorable but these Islamic extremists will never give up on the idea of Gihad. You do see that don't you? How long can we continue to fight an ideology? When they actually threaten us with WMD's yea it's time for action but not until then. We invaded Iraq supposedly with intelligence of WMD's and when it was clear there were none we should have backed out then with full apologies. Why didn't Bush keep pursuing Bin Laden and his gang the ones that actually attacked the US. What did Iraq have to do with it?

First off, thank you for your service to this Nation. I am in total agreement with you; if we retreat from Iraq (let's call it what it is folks, when you pull your troops out of a contested theatre, you are giving up the battle, and thus, you lose), all we do is embolden the Islamo-fascists and their allies to attempt greater and more violent attacks on our country and its interests. Bin Laden has been quoted as saying that when he saw our troops run out of Somalia, he knew that the U.S. had become a paper tiger and that it was time to strike, hence 9/11. However, in contrast, when Reagan bombed the you-know-what out of Libya, suddenly there was a marked drop off in plane hijackings. I cannot understand how this logic is lost on some people; a show of weakness invites more attacks, while a show of dedicated strength discourages them.
There are several motivations for those in opposition to the war. Some are the "Peace at any cost" crowd (a philosophy which I find repulsive), others are those who just hate GWB so much that they can't see straight (a plight with which I can empathize, as I felt the same way about Clinton), and many are just ignorant of historical facts. They do not realize that since the birth of the religion, Islamic fanatics have been at war with Western Civilization. They do not know that a couple hundered years before the Crusades, an Islamic army invaded Europe from North Africa, conquered all of Spain and half of France before being driven back -- why, because following the fall of the Roman Empire and the first outbreak of the Black Death, Europe appeared WEAK and ripe for the taking. They do not remember that the reason that First Crusade was launched was because Islamic warriors were raiding and pillaging the territories of the Byzantium Empire (though they are quick to remember the horrors wrought by the Crusaders). They do not recall that the reason that the Marine Corps Anthem mentions the "Shores of Tripoli" is because, right after winning our Independance, the United States fought powerful Muslim pirates and slavers off of the Barbary Coast and North Africa. They do not remember that ever since hardline radical Muslims overthrew the Westernized government of Iran in the 1970s, the United States, Europe, Israel, and our allies have been plagued by the continuous attacks of one terrorist organization or another.
I know that war is a terrible thing, a thing that should be avoided if at all possible. However, I know that this war was started long ago, before the birth of this nation, and it was started by our enemies. I also know that one sure way to lose a war for survival and freedom is to just simply not fight it. Unfortunately, I sometimes feel that those who also know these things are in the minority.

Hello brother,
You know, and I know what this war is about. This war against you and me will ratchet up if we lay down and move out of Iraq. People do not seem to get it. They don't understand they are in a war, whether they want it or not.
I too am not a politician, and am concerned about our Nation. We have, as a whole, become too complacent in this nation. The young do not understand, nor do they care about this Holy War that Islam has declared on the Western world. They don't understand, if you don't resist and fight, you have already lost. I, as you, agree, the nation should back the president. He is trying to do what is right. However that don't seat too well in today's protest world. It is to the benefit of the Islamic Jihad for the US to be so fragmented that it cannot combat their terrorism.
I saw what the seesawing in our government during Vietnam caused. We, not the military, the nation ran with our tails between our legs and allowed the very people we were fighting into our country, giving them amnesty and social security benefits with no taxes.
I agree this war began thousands of years ago when Islamic armies left Baghdad and destroyed the known civilized world from Iraq to India.
I don't believe however, that the people in the US have the fortitude to do what is necessary, I'm sorry to say.
Rest assured, this war will never end until Christ comes back.
Go with God, my friend

As a non-religious entity, the United States of America cannot engage in a "holy war." But I have news for all of you: the hatred that Muslim extremists feel toward America will never go away. We represent everything they hate, and that isn't going to change any time soon. We need to work on heightening security here, rather than attacking blindly in other countries because we THINK there might be terrorists there. Hatred is an invisible enemy, until it wants you to see its face. We will NEVER eliminate terrorism.

Amen brother.....and thank you for your service and sacrifice. You make excellent points. Of course, they won't want to hear them, even from someone who's been there. Peace was given a chance, several times, and it failed. There will always be times when diplomacy will fail due to evil people like Sadaam in the world. Then you have to take action or appear to be weak. Doing that will only enable them to come in for the kill like they did on 9/11.

The problem is the left thinks we are responbile for fanatic islam, and that if we crawl back into our hole, all will be well. Smarter people know better, which is why we are behind the president regardless if he does make a lot mistakes and is a borderline idiot.

Yes, you are right. As long as people like Ahmadinejad are in power, there will be Holy War, regardless of where the US and Israel stand.

Is this war about religion? I don't ever recall hearing anything like that. Taliban, check. Murder/genocide, check. Even oil, check. Bush vs. Hussein vendetta, check.
