There are two possible problems. 1. Your driver didn't carry over. Go to the card maker's website and download an XP driver for your card. 2. Your card, if old enough, may be incompatable with Windows XP. There was a big stink about that when XP first came out, there should be compatablity lists still on Microsoft's websites somewhere.

First check in device manager whether there are any yellow question marks which indicate if the driver is not installed...now how to go to device manager...Right click on My computer icon either on desktop or under start button then click on properties in system properties window click on hardware tab....then click on device manager check for any question marks if you find a question mark...then install the required drivers using the CD that you would have received along with the motherboard....

your sound card is not installed if you have the motherboard CD you can install your sound card
