The lever down by the driver's feet won't click open the hood door - it seems as though it is jammed. I don't want to pull it too hard because the handle may break. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah I've had this problem on a few cars, it's pretty simple to do but annoying you need to push down on the front of the bonnet while someone pulls the bonnet catch, it might be a little stiff so push & pull at the same time, when up get it up use some kinda wd40 spray & spray the catch..also underneath the bonnet you should have round plastic screw type things either side of the front pannel turn thenm anti clock wise so they lift up a tad so you get abit of pressure on the cable so the hood will open first time next time! Good Luck! Bonnet = Hood by the way I'm in the UK 'lol

I actually have had a similar problem yet no longer with a Fiat. Take it your community storage and they are going to open it for you, that's what i had to do. It more beneficial than likely needs a clean cable. no longer that expensive to change.

It is already broken. It's attached to a wire, and it's common for cars hood releases to break. You will have to take it to a garage. They have to restring the wire and replace the handle. I would try to do this soon, because you can't check your fluids.

get down to the ground and look up under the front of the car to where the hood latches, does it have a trip(some cars do)if its got a place, take a long screwdriver and reach up and trip the hood latch.
