Because we are inherantly imperfect.
Our ability to repair damage to cells and to duplicate our cells is inherantly imperfect: It makes mistakes...
An entire body continually making mistakes in repairing and replacing cells eventually results in aging and the weakening of the body as a whole....
Ironically though... if the process of replacement was perfect from the outset..... we would never have progressed beyond mere protein chains.
Just remember.... while more often than not, mistakes tend to be negative..... the odd bit of serendipity can pay off.... It isn't enough to save a single life from dying.... but it is enough to make one in a million better than his peers.... breed more... spread that goodness and evolve.
Without death and imperfection, evolution and advancement would not, could not be.

Wow. That's a tough question isn't it? I'll skip the biological reasons, as they've been stated clearly enough.
As to "The Grand Plan" type of discussion, I'd say you first have to try and move out of the notion of good and bad. That is: Life = Good, Death = Bad. If you think of life like flowing water, and consider that at some point all rivers flow into the ocean, then maybe applying the metaphor to life makes some sense. Maybe not.
I'm guessing you just lost, or are going to lose someone close to you, in which case nothing but time will really assuage your loss, including chatty little tidbits off the internet. At any rate, if my guess is correct I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.
Death is what it is, the physical body being reclaimed by the earth. If it's any consolation at all and whether or not you are religous, spiritual, or somewhere in between perhaps you might consider one of Einstein's Laws: "Energy can neither be created nor destroyed".
Even the hardest Nihilist must admit this is true, and this actually proves, even if you're only referring to the chemical energy that makes our bodies move, that part of our energy does continue after death. For some it might prove even more than that.
Thus, to return to the metaphor from the beginning, The life that was once flowing inside us perhaps returns to that great ocean of energy in the cosmos.
The hardest thing to get a handle on really is that there is no definitive answer. Many will tell you otherwise, but they simply are unable to accept that no one truly knows.

I don't know what kind of people that you hang out with but I have NEVER heard anyone say that people die to make thing's interesting..Unfortunately death is a part of life.Everyone dies as to why I don't think that anyone really has the answer to it except for GOD.When an old person dies people say"it was their time"when a young person dies people say "it is a tragedy"All I know is that we are all put on this earth for a reason and purpose and when our purpose is up we die..It is the circle of life...I suggest that you find some people with more logical thinking to be with because death is NOT interesting..

People die because neither evolution nor science has remedied the aging process....yet. Check out the writings of Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman. These guys say that, with the current exponential rate of technology growth, the human race will have the technology to transcend human biology and achieve longevity by the middle of the 21st century (roughly 2050). They even wrote a book on how baby boomers can "live long enough to live forevery". It's called Fantastic Voyage. Pretty interesting stuff.

If you want to be literal, not metaphysical, people have to die because our bodies just are not built to be used indefinately. Just as with cars, unless kept in a garage and never driven, after a few decades, every part will wear out and need replacing.

We don't have to. We believe we're going to and by this belief we do. We always get what we think about, good or bad, happy or sad, life or death. If You believe that You'll live forever and never doubt that then You will.

I agree with u.
I personally think, till then we are fickle minded, need lots of change in life, and want to make our life intersting only with something new, till then we have to die, to change the circumstances.
Once u learn to b with the same conditions u have, u may become immortal.
good luck, we''ll survive in this planet & will surely meet each other.

Have you ever quoted someone that has died. Then you make people think about them also. When someone teaches you something, their interest are carried on through you after their death. (IE) "My dad taught me how to do that". I hope you know what Im saying.

There's really no answer to that besides that it's part of life. And as much as it sucks that we have to lose people we love, we just have to learn to deal with it. Because we can't stop it.
