for drop b tuning you have to have 11 guage strings or heavier on your guitar or it won't work

tuning from high to low the strings are
C#
G#
E
B
F#
B

and remember, unless you know a lot of songs in drop B you are gonna have to make one hell of an adjustment afterwards to play something else

You'd need some big strings. Have you considered a 7 string guitar? I picked up an Ibanez RG7421 used for about $275.

I'm going to assume you're thinking of "Dropped-D"...which is leaving the guitar in standard tuning, except for the low E string which gets de-tuned to D... (DADGBE)...it makes for a way-heavy sound...

Dropped-B? A guitar would not stay in tune with such a drop, and I imagine the string wouldn't even play because it would be too slack...
