The greatest motivator of all is when you fear that you will lose someone you love. You can do anything then in order to keep you loving ones in your life.

For the imperfect soul, fear is a more effective motivator because this person wishes to avoid negative or painful things.

For the saint, love is a more effective motivator because for this person pleasing God and neighbor are the ultimate reward.

Most of us begin by being motivated by fear but as we spiritually mature we hopefully start to act for the love of God and neighbor.

Don't get me wrong, though. Fear can be a very good thing if it stops us from sinning. It's just that eventually we want to get past that and move to a higher spiritual plane.

When you say "effective" it would depend on how you interpret effective.

In any circumstance, I believe, "love" is most effective. Effective does not necessarily mean the outcome you would like instantaneous, but that which you can look at the whole picture; and see a series of your life with "love" as a motivator rather than fear.

Fear either causes fight or flight. Love is such a broad range of things, the possibilities are endless. It would seem Love is more effective in motivating.

Take examples of many people that do all sorts of crazy things for "love".

Now look at so many examples of those that do things out of fear.

You will find the majority of things effectively handled with "love" than "fear"

If I knew your house was going to blow up in 10 minutes, then fear would be a greater motivator to getting you out of the house. However, if you have a death wish, love would be the stronger motivator. Love and fear are not the opposites that some make them out to be. They are part of the vast number of emotional responses given by God to the human race to help us handle the variety of experiences we face in life.

Due to our differences in personality, in our perceptions, in our backgrounds and beliefs, and our learned responses, each human will need a different motivator in any given situation. I have seen alcoholics who somehow hurt the child they love, quit drinking instantaneously. Other times, no matter what has happened to the family, no matter how much love they have been shown, they do not stop drinking until some great fear awakens them to their addiction. For some, neither fear or love will stop them, so the law has to.

The same is true for religious conversions. For some, the idea of spending eternity in torment brings them to make a choice for eternal life, while for others, it si the love that God showed them in Christ's death that draws them. For still others it is the logical progression of thoughts and ideas that motivates their faith.

In the end, it is often a combination of fear, love, and faith that best motivates any given individual.

Effectiveness can only be measured based on individual cases. Everyone reacts differently to fear and love, given a different situation.
We all know that both works well to motivate. But we must note that if it fails, fear may give rise to rebellion instead of motiviation, whereas love causes one to loosen up, missing his focus.
So it all depends on the situation *** the personality. That's why parents, bosses, teachers do not just use one motivator.

Love...for love one will do anything. This is a love that is a true love, not a valentine kinda thing. But love....love of both men and women. For that we will do everything in our tiny powers to raise the mountains around Everest to a higher state if need be.
Fear will only chip away at the base of the smallest mountain on earth. There is no motivation there.

Fear. It's much more universal, any primate can understand fear. Love is a wishy-washy idea and highly subjective and variable between individuals.

Using fear as a motivator may have unforeseen repercussions, such as resentment or open hostility if the "target" is given the opportunity.

well it sounds like you have been watching to much donny darko but what ever.well you cannot judge them higher or lower to each other for they are at opposite ends of the human emotion plane.just like magnets.neither one has greater or lower value but the only way to motivate more using such tools would be the way in which you use one of these tools.hope this clears up your understanding of fear and love.
