unfair, anyone who says different is a clown. how can government justify taxing cigarettes so much and then say you are not allowed to smoke them. That is like paying road tax and not being able to drive your car because it pollutes the atmosphere. smokers are the only group left that it is socially acceptable to discriminate against and i am sick of it. Also why isn't smoking being banned in the house of lords?

I am a smoker, but I can honestly say I dont feel its a bad thing, i dont smoke in my house, and if i am in company that doesnt smoke then I dont, I dont feel that anybody should be subjected to second hand smoke. I think my only concern would be that pubs as in the small local kind, should have been given the choice to opt in or out.. maybe even small cafes - they could lose a lot business from this.

I feel that provided adequate signage was provided then the public could decide for themselves whether to use a smoking or non smoking pub/bar.. I do agree however that restaurants should have the ban.

As for companies or the workplace, if they had a dedicated smoking area and a non smoking area then again it is a matter of personal choice as to which room you enter.

I think again that personal choice has been removed from us.

But on the whole i feel it is a good decision.

I think that its very unfair. I agree with no smoking in some places where there are children and people eating. What's wrong with having separate areas for smokers? Good air con in bars and clubs would be fine.
It does feel that the government is telling us what to do. They claim it has been a great success in Ireland and other country's but i really cant imagine all the older folk who go to their local pub after work having a pint and not being able to smoke.

They will prob make it illegal next. Personally i think Obese people need to be targeted more. I would love them to do some off putting adverts showing fat people stuffing their faces with the slogan 'Eating Kills'. That will never happen though.

We have that here in Canada. It is a good idea. I don't smoke, because I am allergic. But if I did I guess I would consider to be unfair. It is not going to make people quit, but I do appreciate however going into a restaurant and not having to walk to a cloud of smoke.

A total ban is unfair - if it's so bad for you why doesn't the government ban the sale of cigarrettes altogether?
Because they would lose too much money in tax that's why!
Bleeding hypocrytes!
.....and I don't smoke.

I was in a saw dust pub in Port Glasgow with the walls all covered in tobacco smoke looked a bit unsightly but really fresh without the smoking around you.

Good for smokers, non-smokers, bar and restaurant workers and just about everyone else really outside the tobacco industry. Go to Ireland for evidence of that.

Unfair on those bar and restaurant owners who have already spent loads of cash on expensive air filtering equipment to keep their punters happy......and people in Manchester, who risk being shot or stabbed if they go outside the pub for a quick puff.

Yes it is great It cannot come quick enough!
I am a chronic severe asthmatic I cannot go out to public places i.e .pubs clubs etc as the smoky atmosphere would put me in hospital so when the smoking ban comes in I will be able to go out .

Where I lived before there was no smoking inside anywhere and you go outside. I am a smoker and you just get used to it. I believe where their are kids no smoking. But leave pubs to licensee discretion.
