How is militarism and World War One connected? How is world war one a result of Militarism. I know that Militarism meant that countries kept increasing their military power, to outdo other countries, but in the end how did this cause World War One?

Also does Militarism have something to do with the Arms Race???

Thank You

Militarism is the idea that the army can solve your problems.
If you have problems with your neighbours, build a bigger army.
If they don't do what you want (give up land, make fantastic trade-agreements, you name it), send in the army.

Militarism describes the state of mind where the military is allowed to advise or suggest solutions for problems.
And you know the sort of solutions they suggest. Negotioation is a dirty word; the generals want to use their new toys.
