Im making a website for my own little online buisness and wanted to know how you make a search engine that would say search for items that i have listed in my site or a category of items would come up when they type in a keyword.
Im using dreamweaver 8 if that helps to answer.

You can used Google's Custom Search Engine to put a site specific search on your site. You can choose what sites to search (in your case, simply limit that to you own site), and Google will provide the code to place on you site.

If you feel a bit more adventurous, or need something more customizable, you could try PhpDig. It can be installed on your server, and will crawl you sites (much like a 'big' search engine). It is definitly more of a complex setup, but more customizable than Google, and you can guarentee you site is indexed by the engine.

Your search feature needs to communicate with a database and return back a list that has the search word(s) in it. Unless I saw the project I would be hard pressed to explain more. Try google.

it may cost you more than the amount of money you "might" make with your "own little website"
