This song seems to have been covered by a few artists: Rita Coolidge, Debby Boone, Carol Bayer Sager, Dusty Springfield. One search link said it was written by Kris Kristofferson.

Hope this helps!

I'd rather leave while i'm in love
while I still believe the meaning of the word
I'll keep my dreams and just pretend
that you and I are never gonna end

Too many times I've seen
the rose die on the vine
somebody's heart gets broken
usually it's mine
I don't want to take the chance
of being hurt again
and you and I can't say good-bye

So if you wake and find me gone
oh baby carry you see I need my
fantasy I still believe it's best
to leave while I'm in love

Too many times I've seen
the rose die on the vine
somebody's heart gets broken usually
It's mine I don't want to take
the chance of being hurt again
and you and I can't say good-bye

So if you wake and find me gone
oh baby carry on you see I need my
fantasy I still believe it's best to
leave while I'm in love I still believe
It's best to leave while I'm in love

Origin: a hit from 1968, "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love," co-written by Carole Bayer Sager and the late Peter Allen.

Artists:
This song was performed separately by BOTH of the song writers Carole Bayer Sager (in her self-titled CD) and Peter Allen ("At His Best" CD). Sager is known for writing many popular songs (such as "A Groovy Kind of Love" and "Arthur's Theme").

This song was also sung by sung by Rita Coolidge, and by R&B artist, Ann Peebles ("St. Louis Woman-Memphis Soul" CD). Dusty Springfield also sang her own rendition of this popular tune. Most recently, the band Boy from Oz (with Hugh Jackman) has performed this song.

The Song: I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love

I'd rather leave while I'm in love
While I still believe the meaning of the word
I'll keep my dreams and just pretend
That you and I were never gonna(meant to) end

Too many times I've seen the rose die on the vine
Somebody's heart gets broken
Usually it's mine
I don't wanna take the chance of being hurt again
And you and I can't say goodbye

So if you wake and find me gone
Hey babe, just carry on
You see I need my fantasy
I still believe
It's best to leave while I'm in love

I'd rather leave while I'm in love.

Hope that helps! ;)
