They react to being burned by a magnifying glass, Perhaps its not the same senstation we feel, their little nervous system probably just reacts to its environment from instincts built up over billions of years

Yes , I think they do. Why do people smush ants I dont know. Some , like dopy_dor actually have the brains to invent tortures for them. I dont kill insects unless its like a black widow spider in the house. And even if they dont feel pain ( which I doubt) some people are seriously depraved!

My guess is that they do...we cant hear but they send out a high pitched sound for other ants to come to the rescue.

They dont appear to. My friend and I tried to zap them in the microwave last year when we had an influx of them in our caravan. There were about 30 of the little buggers in the microwave so we put in a cup of water and blasted them on full power for 5 minutes. I think they liked it...there was no obvious deterioration in them. Perhaps they thought it was a sauna!

No, but they certainly can dish it out! Fire Ants can give you more pain than you can imagine, and if you are allergic to their bites, you can die. It has happened.
