Yes, it was an amazing programme.

And at the end, when one of the veterans said he was sure the youth of today would do exactly the same thing - such optimism! I wish I had as much faith.

Right now we have thousands of 'the youth of today' putting their lives on the edge in Iraq and Afghanistan, so the old commando was quite correct in that we will do the same today. What bothers me after watching JC's excellent programme is that today's politicians have learned nothing from the sacrifices made by our armed forces. Still we have under-equipped personnel and lousy politicians responsible for the most ridiculous "cost effective" decisions. Fortunately, we're still British and we'll still fight when it's required.

Yeah. I watch a lot of WW2 stuff but I'd only heard a little about the raid before this. Clarko was a great presenter for the show.

(when he said about the youth of today, I think he meant the armed forces, not chavs on the street)

Yes - very much so.

There were a few occasions when I had a manly tear in the corner of my eye as well.

One thing that troubled me was when one old commando said that the youth of today would be just as brave and would unquestioningly do the same as they had done. I'm not so sure........I don't see too much evidence of that type of spirit in anyone who writes in this forum.........nor do I see that type of attitude in many that I meet.

Very good point Michael W.............my comment above does not extend to the armed forces, rather to the chavs and ne'er-do-wells that lurk around our street corners these days.

It was very good. Men are aggresive and if you wind them up in the right way will do anything to achieve goals. I am not sure about the humble thing - it could be. WWll was a peculiar time where death really did have no dominion

I already have total respect for those brave men who fought for us in the WW2. They suffered so much and yet still many elements of society rob, harm and abuse these heroes in their old age. My father in law fought as a Chindit in Burma, fighting the Japanese in the jungles. It was horrific and yet he does not hold any grudges against them now. Neither will he talk about it. He just gets on with his life, helping all and never giving in to any of his ailments. What a man.

To be trustworthy, I even have been partial to suited kit for years and years, yet that episode has me questioning even if it merits my viewing time ever lower back! i'm no longer a poo pooer killjoy, yet, i rather do think of that the biggest project with that programme replace into the certainty that they endangered the lives of others. Their automobiles weren't roadworthy, and how Jeremy Clarkson persevered tochronic his, together with his view critically obstructed around the windscreen and then to proceed using while his windscreen wipers did no longer artwork in a downpour - so badly that he in elementary terms merely prevented collisions with automobiles in the neighbouring lane via Richard Hammond giving left/suited training to him over the CB radio, replace into in my strategies, completely irresponsible. I have not got any project with Clarkson and co doing stupid issues in automobiles themselves - in the event that they desire to take hazards with their very own very own protection, this is their prerogative, yet to realize this in circumstances over which they have not got any administration and which additionally endangers the lives of alternative persons, is at maximum suitable egocentric and at worst irresponsible and dangerous. The incident with the slogans all over the automobiles, and the comments with the help of JC illustrate merely how irresponsible the manufacturers of TG have become in an attempt to be stunning. I regular lengthy in the past that suited kit isn't probably a programme approximately automobiles, this is greater like 'adult males Behaving Badly' with automobiles! besides the fact that if, I enjoyed that, or used to. yet while this cutting-edge specific have been something performed with the help of considered one of those eastern programmes featured on Tarrant on television, the place contestants do completely stupid and doubtlessly risky issues, we'd be astounded that such issues might desire to be allowed. little doubt, had this been filmed on a twin carriageway in this u . s ., the presenters, and in all probability the manufacturers might discover themselves on countless costs for motoring offences.

One of the best programmes that's been on for a long time, and you could tell that JC was also humbled by them, which made it even better.
