I have a feeling the previous owner used lighter petrol to clean it.

probably out of ink or cartridge not installed properly, however, here is link to the Cannon download library ... good luck

That's a very old printer, if memory serves. Best guess? Your ink has dried out.

Read the Canon manual. There is a way to print a test page.

If the test page prints properly, you may have re-install the Canon software. If still stuck, replace the ink cartridges or buy a new printer.

Hope you took off the protective tape on the ink heads.
If you have and it still doesn't print it could be that the print heads are clogged up. Take out the cartridge and place the cartridge ie. the print head in a saucer that contains boiling hot water and jiggles it around to loosen the hard dried up ink in the print head. Once done, dry the cartridge with a hair dryer if it is very wet or just wipe with toilet paper. Be sure to cover your working surface with old newspaper to prevent messing.

clean the heads make sure the ink is full and if you have too redo the head cleaning. Im sure this will help

Is the print head moving as it would be if it were printing. If so new cartridge should sort it.

It could be there is no ink. The complete set (1Black and 3x colour) will cost you £3.80 in mainland uk (incl. VAT and P&P) at ezeinks.co.uk

Have you tried to shut down your computer? It might work. I have had the same problem in the past.
