Do the concepts of Family Values and American Values contradict one another?

When a political party uses Family Values as a platform, doesn't that put a vast major of people outside the circle? Shouldn't the government serve all and not just a group who believe society should follow their rules? In the end, does a platform based on Family Values do nothing more than split our country into two sides of an endless debate?

Family values are based on fear . The fear your kids will drink to much and get killed or use drugs and get caught and go to jail or the fear they will not be smart enough to graduate high school or go to college or might be uninterested in school and focus on girls and sports to much .
Fear is what guides parents . So we do not let Kids drink till they are 21 now and we do not let kids use drugs at all by making everything illegal that can cause a buzz or a mind altering experience . We know for certain that drugs are bad and drinking kills our teens .

52% have used alcohol in Grades 9-12 and 22% have used an illegal drug in the last month . 35% have used an illegal drug in the last year and those are among students willing to admit drug use .

So the fear parents have is unfounded considering the number of kids drinking and drugging according to federal studies .

Once these kids get away from home and into college the drug and alcohol use remains the same . The same % of kids use in college as did in high school around half drink and A quarter use drugs .

Bush used drugs and graduated from a prestigious University and became president . Is he an exception to the rule ? Not really .

Our fears as parents are unfounded and many kids who drank in school and college go on to have very successful careers and lives and some do not .
Some people who never drink or use drugs go on to have trouble free lives and some do not .

Utah for example a mostly dry state for alcohol and drug use has as many domestic violence cases and a similar number of deaths per thousand auto accidents .

This makes no sense if drugs and booze are the villian we make them out to be .
A more realistic perception would be that alcohol and drugs contribute an additional 5% tops to the over all problem and this is from chronic abuse .

Educating our kids to be good people treat others with respect and be open and honest will produce a better generation regardless of drug or alcohol use .

To blame drugs and alcohol on all the problems of society is just ridiculous and parents need to face reality and take responsibility to educate kids that anything done to excess is bad .

The family values of raising kids to become productive adults and future parents does not rely on banning so called mind altering substances .
people who never use have the same problems as people who do . It is the excessive use that is a problem . Teach your kids to be responsible in the use of food so they are not fat ,exercise so that they are fit , an education based in reality so they are not delusional , and above all that the moderate consumption of all things is the only sure way to avoid problems in life .

Would you want your Gay child to commit suicide from the pressure applied by society .

Would you want your son or daughter to end up in an abusive marriage .

Would you want your kids abusing any substance from food to drugs .

Since the answer is NO

Then it is time to get honest and teach kids the warning signs and let them know they are loved no matter what and be more involved . Know whats going on in your child's life .
This will do more to make them good people then all the other nonsense that is tossed at them .
Imagine how confused a child is who goes to church on sunday and is told the earth was made in 7 days That God put all the animals as we know them here on planet earth . Made all the plants and trees and all the fish in the ocean .
Well sharks have remained unchanged for what millions of years . And this is but one example of things that confuse kids and adults . Delusions that praying solves a problem when taking action is the only thing that does .
That some how ghosts are real and believe me when 75% of americans say yes ghosts are real we have a major problem facing reality .

The truth is the only thing that can set you free . Truth be told women after having children are not as sexually wanton as before having a child . Yet men remain in a constant state of willingness to engage in sex with another woman . That women due tend to desire a different man after the first child and this is natural because diversity ensures survival . That monogamy can be practiced but both people must remain vigilant to that commitment because it is not the natural order of things .

So dishonesty and lies come with our enforced rules and regulations .
If you told your wife the day you got married that you would be having 3.6 affairs during the marriage would she say yes .
This statistic is the lowest with some as high as 30 depending on the attractiveness of the parties involved .
That women in marriages without children are in 75% of those marriages having affairs also .

We live life under so many myths and lies it amazes me that more people are not insane .


Family values make them what ever you want cause reality will happen regardless .

I am supportive of the truth and to peoples ability to make a commitment as long as other opportunity's do not develop or come along .

I am evil cause I once hired a call girl to meet a buddy of mine in the lounge at a convention and seduce him . He was not attractive a little out of shape and talked all the time about his great marriage and how he and his wife loved on another had great kids and that they where in love and faithful .

Well he never mentioned it again after that night and the guilt ate at him over the next few months until he admitted he had been with another woman .

His wife let him stay because half of everything he had was not enough ..

He owned an average car 4 pairs of shoes 6 suites and spent every dime on the family . Vacations a nice boat two jet skies. She drove an expensive suburban assault vehicle and did not work Instead choosing to drop and pick up the kids and hassle the maid from time to time about the dishes or laundry or dust around the house . .The kids all had piles of designer clothes in the closets and 15 pairs of shoes at least the newest video games and toys, lap tops , cell phones ,private schools , everything a kid could want . She was also attractive and I had been banging her for two years about once a month .
SO whats all this crap we fill our kids minds with leading too .
A constant state of denial to the point we can not accept reality .

Stop adults from raping children . We do not even accept this is as common in society as it is . A man sleeping with his daughter or step daughter where the numbers really rise .

What are our values and what should we base them On

How about reality for a change .
I know this notion scares the hell out of people who live in denial and in their own delusional worlds but maybe we have grown up enough to accept reality . .

The nuclear family is still the ideal. Just because many of us do not live up to that standard does not mean we should not continue to strive for it. Family values are the same as they have always been. It is those who wish to change them that cause the split not those who defend them. The government does serve all the people. But one man married to one woman in a monogamous relationship, staying together through thick and thin and dedicated to instilling good moral values in their children, is still the ideal standard. We should never pretend something less is as good as that ideal standard just to accommodate those who fail to live up to it.

The family is still the basic building block of America. The stronger our families are the stronger America is. Many of modern society's problems are attributable to broken or incomplete family structure and poor family relationships.

Yes, I think so. I consider American value to be a concept of an individuals rights. If legislation is desired to punish actions deemed immoral, isn't that restricting an individuals rights. Morality issues should be decided by each individual, not a centralized government.

Not if everyone buys into the concept of FAMILY. Whether you HAVE one or not is not relative to the fact that the FAMILY should be the cornerstone of this country.

I agree with you that welfare has helped destroy the family. It was and continues to be failed social engineering that promotes laziness and immorality by not requiring work for money and not requiring marriage to breed.

Every American should live with family values. Even if you don't have a family, you should support those with families. Unless of course you only care about yourself and not the future for everyone.
