I don't think PS3 or Xbox 360 are hard to use, and both support HD functionality. The only current feature you may prefer is that the PS3 has blue ray DVD functionality.
Other factors you'll want to determine is (Though gaming with these systems online is an extremely fun feature):
Note: 360 also contains many of the media features listed in the post above as well concerning media files such as pictures, music, and videos.
Cost - There is about a $200 difference on the 360 and PS3. On top of that you will need accessories as well.
Hard Drive Space - The PS3 has a much bigger Hard Drive.
Types of games you enjoy - The 360 has a lot of FPS games mostly, some sports games, RPGs, 2 MMOs (Massive Multiplayer Online), Driving, and a few Action titles. If you like fighting games at all, you will have to wait. Dead or Alive four is the only title 360 has in that department. PS3 has fewer games for sale at the moment, but a good array of all.
Backwards compatability - Xbox 360 will play some of your old Xbox games, however you will need to go online with it to download the emulator that allows this. PS3 is fully backwards compatible, able to play PS2 and PS1 games.

Put simple PS3...the 360 requires you to buy the HD-DVD addon as extra and there arent any HD-DVD movies out (well I havnt seen any anyways) and the 360 is built around online connectivity and connectivity with Vista (ultimate) which aint exactly easy from what I have heard. The PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 games out of the box. As for games, thare arent many games these days that are limited to just one console...both 360 and PS3 have lots of similar titles...its realy only the Wii that has unique titles. As for graphics the PS3 comes out on top with its bluray games and higher memory bandwith allowing for finer textures and more polygons which looks superb on a full high definition display in 1080p resolution. I have seen a bit of texture tearing with the 360 on smaller screens that try and support higher resolutions

Where do people get their info? You don't HAVE to buy the HD-DVD drive for the 360. It is an ADD-ON if you want to have HD-DVD movies. You don't want to watch them or buy them? Fine don't waste $200 on that piece of crap. PS3 games are NOT on Blu-Ray discs from my understanding. They are still on DVDs. Although people who know gaming know that. The only difference is STORAGE ON THE DISC and the DVD holds PLENTY as far as not needing to use Blu-Ray. Another thing if the Blu-Ray is the next Betamax(was Sony's idea also) then you are stuck with it. If HD-DVD falls then big deal as it was only an add-on and most probably won't get it. So with the 360 you aren't stuck paying for the technology that isn't proven yet. With all that said I would say the PS3 is better if you want to spend the money. Although I don't know much about that sixaxis thing so maybe the 360 would be better.
