I am 28 weeks pregnant, but because my hubby is military we are stationed in Germany, so we are seeing a German OBGYN. We are moving to the states in a month though, so I will spend my last month of pregnancy and delivery in the States. Is it ok to "skip" this months appointments? If everything is normal, and I've already had the required tests and shots, I monitor my BP and kick counts every day at home, is it illegal to miss prenatal appts if there is no other OBGYN that I would be comfortable with?

I am not skipping the LAST month, I'm skipping the 2nd to last month, because the drs over here make me extremely uncomfortable, and my stress levels jump unnessecarily high for each appt, but because we are here, I am "assigned" a Dr. I will be finding a Dr. as soon as I get to the states for the last month.

Also, the Germans do an internal exam and swab EVERY appt., which makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable, as husbands are not allowed in the exam room.

No its not illegal. I went to maybe 4 of my Dr's appt when I was pregnant with my second child because personally I think they are a waste of time and money.

Some people never see a doctor... You really should though! There are so many complications that you would never know of unless you went to the doctor! Think of how you would feel if you skipped the appts and missed a preventable complication! I develpped a complications only AFTER 29 weeks gestation! I am sure that you will find an OBGYN that you will feel comfortable with- afterall, they do not do internal exams unless there seems to be a problem....

It is not "illegal" as such, but if you were to have complications leading to the baby's death, you could be held criminally liable.

Find an obgyn. You will need one for the delivery anyway! The odds are on your side for no problems and a happy healthy baby, but there's always the chance of something not going wrong. What if he or she is a breach? What about pre-eclampsia? ( I know that is bp related but still could be hidden). Many other simple problems can be averted if a medical professional picks it up. They are trained to notice the little things that we may not recognize as a potential problem.
When you get there, get doctor shopping quickly! Find someone you have a level of comfort with, even if it means visitng a number of practicioners.

Good luck with baby, and hope you find someone helpful.

Illegal no, not a good idea though. The last month is the worst time to miss as this is the point where alot of problems could develop. They need to be checking fetal heart tones, and you cervix.Alot of doctors will not see you if you are past 6 months, because they don't know your history. And is you go into labor early without a doctor you may not get an epidural alot of hospitals are hesitant, because they don't know if you've taken drugs and that is the reason. They will also do a urine drug screen on the baby at birth.Even though you have'nt done drugs it still looks bad at the hospital.

I don't know if it's illegal in Germany, but in the State you could have charges brought against you (though, not likely. usually it's because the father or doctor push it because you are not taking care of yourself or the baby, or putting the baby at risk on purpose). I'm guessing you mean skipping the last appoinment in the states. Don't you want to meet the Doctor that will be delivering your baby before you have it? What if you are truly uncomfortable with the Doc the day you go into labor... you could prevent that by meeting him before hand. That would be the main reason I would go to a doctor before my delivery if I was in your shoes. At your last visit you get a lot of helpful information about what's going to happen.

Not illegal just a little stupid, why would you want to 'skip' the most important appointments you will ever attend & risk not detecting a problem or issue they may be able to sort out if you do attend? Things like pre-eclampsia, high/low blood pressure etc etc can come up anytime & i wouldnt risk not finding out i had them. Plus at 28 weeks you need your bloods re-doing! I wouldnt if i was you!

I don understand why do u want to miss ur appointment.U have been going to this German OBGYN, then what's the problem now.

In my opinion u shouldn't miss ur appointment for no reason. Ur doctor in states might ask this too.

I have no idea about German doctors, but if I were you I would go to the doctor just in case something did happen.
