Why do rappers often adopt diminutive names like P Diddy or Nelly or 50 Cents?

Is it a reverse psychology thing? - that they're so bad-assed that they can afford silly names. By the same reverse logic would they be more glamorous if they were called Phil or Dave?

They don't have any talent so they have to find a way to stand out. If you remember the band grand funk railroad or a lot of bands in that era, youl'l see they didn't have much of a gimmick, they weren't very flashy but they had a great sound and lots of talent, great vocals, strong bass lines, keys, rippin guitar solos. It is a shame but mtv, rolling stone and all those other sell outs are trying to kill ROCK N ROLL.There are kids out there who play thier guitar every day till thier fingers bleed when all you relly have to do is turn on a drum machine and start...........talking????. I saw a commercial the other day where it showed snoop frog or snoop log, whatever and under his name was written the tittle musician.I think society is lowering the standards for what it takes to actually be a musician because kids are too lazy to ACTUALLY become musicians,It's like I have always said ,"everyone wants to be a musician, for those who fail there is rap"

i think like i'm the minority right here, yet I could be easy. i think of 50 Cent wins in my e book. P.Diddy could purely get interest anymore yet changing his call.
