I'm an amateur musician, And by "amateur", I mean having little to no band/studio experience.. I just record tracks at home.

Lately I've just been using a Cakewalk/Adobe Audition software, with a cheap PC mic... haven't gotten the right sound I'm looking for.. obviously I'm missing a few other necessary things!

any suggestions at all would be appreciated! :0)

Greetings,

You might be best served by moving away from a computer system to a stand alone digital recorder. I say this because you'll need a load of computer stuff, an interface and microphones, mic pre's, effects, etc. Consider some of the roland 8 track systems. It will have most of the things you will need built in. Some even have drum machines built in too.

Finally, there are dozens of microphones you could purchase for under $200 that would blow the computer mic away. You could get set up with mic, mic stands, cables, recorder, etc for about $2k

I think it would be best if you read more recording magazine. I'm highly recommend Sound on Sound, as well as Mix and EQ Magazine.

And there is nothing wrong with free forums like in:
