My friend had a termination in Sept '06, and had the contraceptive injection afterwards. She was experiencing intermittent bleeding, it would stop and start at random times. She didnt go back to have her second contraceptive injection, so it ran out in December. It said on the leaflet that the injection can make you bleed for sometime afterwards, but we are talking about nearly 4 months, and my friend is still bleeding, pretty much none stop more recently for the last fortnight, but not as heavy as previously. Any advice on why this could be happening?

firstly she needs to go back to her doctor and quickly. if it was depo provera she was given then she did the right thing not going for another shot, that stuff is poison, there are many other good forms of contraception available. It sounds more likely the the bleeding is caused by the injection as opposed to the termination, but it could be that all the tissue wasnt removed during it and she may need a d&c. either way, she needs to go to the doctors and soon. I hope shes ok x

I don't know why this could be happening but your friend needs to see her GP as soon as she is able. Prolonged bleeding is bad for you and can lead to being anaemic.

I doubt it has anything to do with the termination and has more to do with the injection - but my medical degree is still in the post!

Good luck.

tell her to go back to the docs, also tell her she is stupid for missing the second injection or does she want to get pregnant again?

some women had to have the procedure repeated because fragments of pregnancy remain in the uterus and cause persistent bleeding, and 1-2% had an infection and are treated with antibiotics.

(i am confused is this about you or your friend? cause looking at your questions i thought you were pregnant)

no it should not effect the chances of you getting pregnant again

It may be due to pil problems or trauma which occurred during the termination either way an examination by a doctor only could rule or in a problems
