Forget the herbal medicines. They are not effective. Doing what the doctor says with weight loss, exercise, antidiabetic agents and/or insulin is the best treatment. There is some evidence that chromium supplements can make a difference here as well. Chromium is a trace element that you may not be getting enough of.

Insulin is what is missing from a diabetic's blood.
Injected insulin is necessary to replace it.
Metaformin is a tablet that encourages the pancreas to produce insulin.
Exotic plants and minerals may be of some benefit but I doubt it.
A severe loss of weight (over time) and a massive decrease in glucose intake will extend the lifetime and health of a diabetic but if your body is producing no insulin at all you will die without injections.

My doctor was attempting to control my diabetes for quite a few years with Insulin, Glucophage and Actos.
He recently tried a new medication called:
SYMLIN.
Symlin is a different hormone that (I think) retards the digestive process and keeps your food in the stomach longer. I had an immediate and dramatic improvement with it.
Apparently my doctor hadn't had all that much success with it in other patients.
