if I make a summary of Tree by F. Sionil Jose, should I also write it like the book? for example, should I write "I was born and grew up in a small town..." should I use first person or should i just tell what the novel is all about? like, "This story is about a boy who was born in a small town..."

or can you give me a sample summary of it?

Just tell the story in your own words and try to be to the point.

Your second approach is correct, not doing it in first person. The secret to writing a good and concise summary is to first outline the structure of the book.

Next, state its main point in a single sentence. Then list the book's other important points. Finally, break down each important point into smaller ideas. If you're allowed enough words, you can give each smaller idea at least one example.
