I think it is the problem and the point that you hope your son will perform a special one, so the best song I suggest you will be 我是中國人 by 鳳飛飛.

Not as the popular song or Pop songs, it will make your son the one who is the talentest in this show.

As a parent who very much volunteered in my kids school when they were in grades K - 6th . . . Help out but DON'T make this YOU'RE moment. Of course be there to guide your child through this fun experience, but be careful not to become the " stage mom ".

My kids are now 14, 17, and 20. When there were in elementary school I saw SO MANY mom's make this THEIR moment and not their kids. The costumes, routines on stage, practiacing to make it just perfect. When I saw the end results of some of these acts on stage...it was very obvious which acts had the mom's heavy hand in it.

Your child is 8 and chooses to be up on stage, which is a very BIG thing to do. Whether you child is part of a group act or doing this on his own . . . sit down with him (or the group) and get their input of choices of songs. Point out to them the song lyrics, costume choices, props etc. You KNOW what songs are out there . . . go to any music store or go online and LISTEN to those songs.

By you asking about " Which songs ..." here...well, it's good that you care, yet it also shows the tracings of a parent that is possibly making this a PARENT'S moment and not the childs.

At my kids schools...we even renamed the show. Instead of " Talent show " we change the name to " Variety show ". This moment is good for a child's sense of planning, self esteem, being part of a group event . . . Yet, it is also for FUN and the children sharing the VARIETY of their creative outlets...not all are going to be TALENTED.

As an experienced parent that was just so embarrassed to see some kids on stage of what was obviously pretty much the parents being up on the stage (without out physically being there) and not the kids . . . Reminder...be aware of that.

You already KNOW what songs are out there. Seek out those song choices...and you AND YOUR CHILD listen to them together to make a choice. This is a good opportunity for lessons of morals of lyrics in songs.

Reminder . . .Keep this to be a VARIETY Show...not a TALENT Show. This is HIS moment to experience being on stage . . . Keep the spotlight on the children.

joy to the world by 3 dog night. good luck, and good for you for being so involved, I know one line in that song is " I'd throw away the cars and the bars and make sweet love to you" but I don't think it has the same meaning when sung by an 8 year old.

I don't know a particular song, but don't try to go too close to the real pop songs because, like you said, they are full of explicts. Try something modern, but not THAT modern, like maybe a Jason Mraz song? He doesn't swear in most of his songs. Good luck!

try something country-they dont use a lot of profanity or sexual inuendos, unlike other styles that seem popular. abba is too outdated.
