You're the one who decides whether to let something or someone get you depressed. It's all how you decide to look at it. In my case I think that I've been thinking negative thoughts so long, it is something I'm comortable with. If I had no problems then I'd be worried as to when something really, horribly bad was gonna happen.
Make up your mind to think positively. You're not gonna be happy all the time, nobody is, but facing your problems with a positive attitude is a lot better than going through life thinking doom and gloom.

Being everyone is unique ~ we each have a different perception of life. What may give positive feelings to someone, may bring negative emotions to someone else. So how one thinks depends upon ones view and their reaction to a particular stimulus. The world would indeed be a better place if everyone looked for the good in things, instead of focusing on the bad.
The mind works in mysterious ways. It would be very difficult (if not impossible) to change and control the way other people think.

Queen let me start off by saying you are very beautiful. In response to your question, negativity comes from harboring hate. Hate spawns negativity. Abuse, Greed, Jealousy, Envy embedding in us as youths uncorrected in childhood breeds a mean person. To change one must take an accurate look at his or herself and be willing to change. Pride will you keep man from change because he thinks he's perfect. Really we are perfect but what we pick up in life make us imperfect. Knowledge, wisdom and understanding will have you to Overstand and be the blessing we were created to be to one another. We were created in love how can we not love. It took love to create us individually. There nobody like a Queen, nobody like me. I hope you get the point. Be a blessing Queen. Let no one take it away from you.

People who have more than their share of bad things happen to them, naturally have adopted a negative attitude and is on tyhe very of losing hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. What they need is a friend to talk to and maybe help them through the hardships they are facing.

The harsh backhand of reality.
We are geared toward self-preservation.
It doesn't take a degree in rocket-science to understand that some things are simply beyond our ability, and that often we are better able to get by if we maintain a low profile. Those who "think negatively" have rather attuned themself in part to their place in the Universe: One tiny, irrelevant speck in a vast, uncaring, churning machine. The number of things you cannot do relative to those you can is absolutely cosmic.... so its typically a good wager to bet you cannot.... Safer too.
Now what I wonder is what causes people to think optimistically? It is an unrealistic, oft dangerous and thoroughly irritating modus operandum. How can it be changed?

Past experiences or situations which wear down one's psychological defences. As bad as it is, however, negativity becomes comfortable and familiar, and we are too swallowed up in fear and defeat to move into a more positive state of mind and thus, unfamiliar territory.

It's not theory rather only the egos attempt to control the thought process.
All you have to do is starve the little bastard to death by depriving it of the nourishment it thrives on.
