It's the daftest walk for the daftest profession. Did you see the ones that had to wear scaffolding and studio lights on their heads?? Someone must be on drugs to think that one up. I haven't yet seen any of those daft creations on the High Street. It's all so ridiculous.

because the models are so skinny it makes them look like they are big enough to fit into the clothes.
actually it's to show movement and excitement. it's the '60 -30 - 10 rule'
60%of the body is going forward
30% (legs. one at a time) going in circles
10% (head/shoulders) don't move a lot
it shows movement more than any other 'type' of walk.

I don't that it is their idea. I think that it is some 'man's' idea of the way they should walk. I watch them and think, someone is going to get all tangled up
with their legs and go flying. It's not even close to a natural walk. The other thing
is the lack of a smile and a 'snotty' expression. Of course, that could come from
some of the stupid clothes they have to wear. They're probably thinking "yuck, but
it's worth it for the money." : }

Yes I have seen it too its totally different now from how they used to walk, like Linda Evangelista Naomi et al. Its supposed to be Gazelle like but to me it is exaggerating the leg in the front then stamp then repeat. I think I would just trip up. Dont you think they look strange full stop though? I really dont see any as beautiful as the afforementioned and their peers from that era. Kate Moss rules!

I think it looks completely mad.
I first saw the walk on Britains Top Model and
I thought 'poor thing - they'll get rid of her'. Then
when they were giving her feedback, they
complemented her on the 'perfect' catwalk!!
I could not believe it and everytime I see it
I just cannot believe they are allowed to walk
this way. They could easily fall over their own feet!
Now - that would be funny!

They never used to lift the legs like a pony, they used to glide down the run way.I think it's all for effect.
They wear stupid looking clothes anyway, the high steps, just completes the clown look.

yes catwalk models are supposed to walk like that, it's not necessarily meant to look attractive or sexy it's meant to be obscure to create interest in the who overall look of the model (clothes she is wearing)

from their name the catwalk.when you see a cat or a tiger you will notice that they walk in a strange way . you will find that one leg from the front and the other from the back must be in the same line, and that's make them walk in a proud and attractive way.

i heard of that too. models that do runaways or whatever, they have to have serious kind of look on them while being sexy. every company is different, some companies prefer smiles and a walk and some prefers sexy serious looks. i guess its their way of showing their clothing.
