It is always taken to be the following Friday. This is because the day you hand in your notice is not counted for the purpose of calculating the seven days or one week.

The following Friday would be your last day of work for that employer.

First what happened to the two-week notice??...To try and answere your question,I'm no expert but here is my two cents...I would think that if had given you'r notice on fri. the one-week would start on sat.making the following fri. your last day (sat.-1 sun.-2 mon.-3 ---fri.-7)The reason for the "2week"notice I always thought it was 2-weeks was a "curticy" thing, allowing you to leave on good terms with you'r employer...giving them a little time to find you'r replacement............hope this helps.....Coyote
