In Australia you have a choice of local or general anastetic (sp)

The eggs are collected via ultrasound control with a fine needle that is passed through the vagina into the ovaries.

The procedure only takes 15-30 minutes.

If you have a lot of eggs I would recommend getting knocked out though!

The woman is given hormone injections that stimulate her body to produce extra eggs. She has these for a number of weeks before the treatment starts. These are then removed from the body and fertilised with sperm outside of her body. The fertilsed eggs (if any) are then analysed and up to 2 are implanted in the womb of the woman. A pregnancy may or may not result.
It's not true that up to 6 eggs are implanted. This practice was stopped in the UK a number of years ago due to the large numbers of multiple births which are very dangerous and usually result in all the babies being lost. 2 is the norm, although I believe that new guidelines are going to say that only one egg should be implanted because of the risks associated with twins.

They fertilize eggs with sperm outside of the body in a lab and then inject more than 1 fertilized egg (about 6) into the womans womb and hope for the best!! They also give her some hormone drugs or injections to make it more likely for the eggs to implant and grow into a baby. It doesn't always work and some couples end up trying again and again, its also very expensive, so you need to think hard before having it done.

depends on the doc, a very long needle will be used, they sometimes go vaginally through the cervix to get them sometimes right through the abdominal wall with a local numbing agent.
In the US some docs still will implant 6 eggs or so. though many are only doing 3-4. Here there is no set number, it depends on the doc and the clinic

you take several injections to make you produce several eggs when ripe they are harvested, then they are fertilized in a pet-re dish then after 3 days of cell splitting they take all the good healthy embryos and implant them in your uterus with hopes that at least one will attach, thus if they all attach comes multiple births.
